West Virginia is a state in the Appalachian, Upland South, and mid-Atlantic districts of the United States, surrounded by Virginia on the south-east, Kentucky on the south-west, Ohio resting on the north-west, and Maryland and Pennsylvania on the north-east. The capital and biggest metropolitan is Charleston. Traditionally the region now engaged by West Virginia and dispute territory, generally by Pennsylvania and Virginia.
